Looks like maybe you bailed into a dinghy/launch? If you don't mind me asking, how long was it until you determined you needed to abandon ship? Did you fight the fire at all? Was it even possible?

That is terrible. I am also curious if you tried to fight the fire and finally said you have to leave? I have a fire ext. in the boat but always wonder if I should get another one just in case.

Sad news and sounds like everyone is ok, which is what's really important. Are you able to provide more details about the incident so that we can learn from it....

This is why a good fire suppression system should be on all bigger boats. Most boater only carry what

the Coast Guard regulation say you need and this is not enough.

                        Sorry for your lose

I found these pictures on Live aboard site on face book so sad. The owner said he thinks his turbo blew ?

Has anyone added a fire suppression systems on their boats?

The owner posted these yesterday. Yes, definitely a tragedy. A fire suppression system may have helped, but with twins you need the other engine to be shut down or it will pull all of the halon out.

With Halon or Halon substitute you need an engine shutdown system also installed for diesels.

My 3870 was used in the Alaska oil spill and a very large Halon bottle was installed in the engine room.

I also have a large hand held Halon ext. just inside the cabin door, a small Halon type in the galley and 2 BC ext. in the boat.

Cannot have to many of these. I need to have them inspected this year.

My VHF also broadcasts vessel position in an emergency.
