  • Fiberglass mold plug from 5788 or 5288

I'm in the process of designing and building a custom hardtop for Omega and was going to cast a mold for the front of the pilothouse roof to use as a start...has anyone done that already or know where a roof might be that I could modify?

    Thanks,

    ~BJ

Not sure if anybody ever answered you, but there is a 57 in Tacoma that has a hard top. I saw it go by on opening day on Lake union. Its a very good looking top

Thanks for the info, S.I.... nobody really had much to offer, unfortunately.. The mobster your talking about is part of the Tacoma Yacht club. Her name is Sea life... i can’t remember her previous names. it is a beautifully done hardtop. I talked to the owner and he was a third owner (I believe) and didn’t do the mod. She also has an extension that is rally nice, as well... unfortunately, as the current owner didn’t do the mod, he didn’t have any of the details.

Sadly, to date, I still haven’t found anyone who has personally done a hardtop on a 5788 or that has information or experience with it... i have run into companies that are willing or hungry to do a hardtop for me, but thy also want $40,000 to $50,000.....and that’s without any enclosure around the hardtop... In the mean time, I’ve finished the preliminary design for my hardtop and started taking moods of the radar arch, but then got hit by an unexpected illness. I’m hoping to get past my illness soon, so I can keep building my ne hardtop. If I’m REALY lucky, I might be able to build it this summer, still...

The journey for my new hardtop continues.

      Thanks again,
      BJ

That hardtop you mentioned was installed by the original owner when the vessel was named Hydrogene, and it totally looks factory. The hardtop was fabricated in Port Coquitlam BC, but I’m not sure by whom. The (then) owner is a member of our yacht club, and I may be able to find out more details, but I suspect that the amount of time elapsed since it was built almost guarantees that the mold is probably no longer around.

When we first purchased our 5788, I chatted with Boaters Discount Center in LaConner who gave a ball park price of $25,000 to build a hard top, but I suspect that such a top would be rudimentary, and not have the level of design of the hard top on Hydrogene (Sea Life)

Get hold of Bruce "Missdarlin459" on the Meridian Yacht owners website.
He has done a hardtop along with several other modifications you might be interested in.
I’ve been doing a little work on my 580…all new exterior cushions, added A/C and a hardtop to the upper helm with acrylic windows that remove 98% of the UV rays; added AIS and Smart Craft gages to my Garmin, new hardwood floors in the pilothouse, galley and salon and remodeled dinette set. Next...
