Well spring is coming and we are hard at work planning summer vacations. This year we are staying more local (as opposed to last year where we sailed the Eolian Island in Sicily for 2 weeks, plus another 2 weeks in Sicily itself)
Anyhow the destination is selected which is Newport RI (we have friends that rented several houses) thus we are taking our boat from North of Lake Champlain NY to Newport and back.
Going down we know where to stop, Kingston NY at the municipal dock because the city is marvelous, then Liberty Landing in NYC.
We are looking for some advice for the portion from NYC to Newport RI. I do have some friends that went that way last year but it turned out ugly, stuck in sand at fire island and ultimately they had to turn around in Montauk because of nasty waves (that happens)
So I would like to stay on the Long island sound and dock at the best places, aka read historic places, fine dining, very european looking or stunning views or best all of it.
Thus if you have good experiences for the NYC - Newport RI part please share. Oh and by the way in Newport we are thinking of staying at the Newport Yachting Center..
Thanks in advance
