    Good Day,

I remember seeing a post on upgrading the original raw water pump on the 3988 with 270hp Cummins. Who has done it and can anyone give tips and or advice on the job.

    Regards, Sea Shift.

The Sherwood pump tends to leak and drip on the bearing. Toast. You can rebuild and it will happen again. http://www.sbmar.com/product/smx-1730-seawater-pump/ is a replacement that has improved design. This should help: http://www.sbmar.com/articles/dealin...rine-6bta-5-9/

So by the pictures and descriptions it looks like you have to loosen the one mount only..is there enough give together the clearance needed.?

I just had the upgrade water pumps installed. The shop had heard about but not seen them, and they were impressed by the outward appearance and design. Not only that, but the pair were $200 less than a major rebuild of the Sherwoods.

On the 39 just loosening the nut and taking the weight off does it.

Thanks for tips. Did the change out yesterday, 2 1/2 hours , relatively easy. Now need to tackle to port side. More boat yoga
