Flybridge Canvas Inserts - Likes? Dislikes?-gctid800733

    Hello all

I'm interested in a canvas insert that is mounted to view through the clear vinyl on the fly bridge of our sedan bridge boat. They are commonly fitted with a wiper/washer system.

These commonly are made I believe by companies like "Seaview" or "AJR Marine Windows".

Anyone have any good experiences? Or not so good experiences with these?

Can you adapt these to allow for easy removal when removing all the vinyl windows in the summertime?

Any feedback or suggestions would be appreciated.

    Thank you.

Got one installed by the PO on our boat -- front facing single window only. LOVE it. Highly recommended. It zips/velcro's into the existing canvas and removal is simple as unzipping it and lowering it out. Mine comes with a window washer spray and wiper like the one pictured so you have to disconnect those to remove. We've never used the spray so if it's an option you might want to avoid it.

So do you have a source for the kit? I asked my wholesale marine canvas people, they said had not seen them for 20yrs?

You might try looking for a used one. When we had our vinyl redone two years ago, I sold the window/wiper combo to the canvas guy for $250. We have a pilothouse so I did not see the need. He marked it up and resold it on another job he was doing. Win, win, win!

I would drop $250 down in a second for a decent used one.

                    > than a boat unit seems too high - not trying to be cheap but you know...

One way or the other I'm going to get one, the visibility is worth it.

I might have to closely at one and see how its made...

Swing by and take a look at mine if you wish -- I'm at the RVYC in Cadboro bay.

There's not much too it really -- although the construction is very good. It's an aluminum framed window that has a bezel on the outside that creates a place to insert canvas that's more or less clamped/bolted into place. The canvas has both velcro and zippers to affix to the existing flybridge top.

I have the PO's receipt for the window and it wasn't cheap -- if I recall I think it was over $1500 installed. He had it done in Vancouver and I will see if I can dig it out this weekend.

Much appreciated, I might very well want to take you up on that.

I was thinking if there I could find the right framed window with a place to mount from, it might not be too difficult to make something worth using.
