  • Packing size for stuffing box on my 1991 3288 motoryacht with 351 Windsors-gctid736832

I have a question about my 1991 3288 with 351 Windsor's can somebody tell me what size stuffing are used in the stuffing box I know the shaft-is 1 inch and a quarter?

I have been reading these posts for quite some time now They have been extremely helpful I have accomplished many of the projects on the 3288 that have been explained on this forum I want to thank everyone very much!

Yes I agree with Iceclimber, they are not really a true planning hull.

A 351 in a marine application should have a max of around 4800rpm, so I think you are a little bit overpropped.

That's not horrible. These boats don't really plane (I tend to get disagreement on that issue) but check with a GPS. When you test have a light load and make sure your tabs are getting down all the way. I hit 28MPH once and I have the gas 305's. Regardless the boat is not designed to go fast, but arrive at a stately more gentlemanly pace

My boat is happiest at around 8-10.

I have been told that I should get somewhere between 4200 and 4400rpm but I am questioning my tax and how accurate they are one says 3800 while the other said I believe 4000

Sometime if you use google search it works better than the search engine on the site.

Is 4000 rpm the maximum rpm you are able to get, with a clean bottom and both engines tuned and running properly?

thank you for that information about the stuffing size where were you able to locate that?

I was runningat 3800 to 4000 RPM at that speed I believe

That is a lot better than the diesel powered ones. What rpm are you running at that speed?

    Packing size is 1/4 inch.

Interesting, you have a 3288 with 351 Windsors? I only thought the 38xxs were offered with a gas v8. It must get up and go.
