Had not thought of doing that. Nice idea.

When I got my 1986 3870 in 2002, my shifters were badly corroded. I removed them, had them rechromed, had new decals made at a local sign shop and replaced them. Not a tough job and can be done easily from either helm.

Engine compartment would be tight for twin actuators on a 32 ft but makes more space at both helms - consider installing the system power breaker panel where one set of controls was removed at the lower helm; alternately great spot for bow thruster joy stick, or a Staples "Easy" button.

The previous owner installed electronic controls in my boat. Subsequently, the 4 levers became two, leaving a bigger hole to fill. North Habor Diesel did the installation and they used a piece of black material large enough to cover the hole. The new controls, which were smaller in area, were then bolted/fastened to the material covering the hole. There is a picture of this in the "Project Completed" forum where I posted on some completed bridge panel work.

I can't see what model they are, but, replacing throttles isn't a terribly big deal. When you take the old ones out you will certainly move the cables and will have to readjust them. It's fairly simple and all you have to do is make sure the throw is correct - closed needs to be closed. It is straighforward.

If you have to change models due to age, again you just have to make sure you have the proper throw. Most are adjustable in that type.

I can't really see your second picture too well so I can't advise there. If you have a little more info I'm sure there are a myriad of ideas.

I would like to replace my old throttles (see first picture). They work fine, but look like hell. Is this a big deal, or can I just by new ones and connect the cables without readjusting ect?Second quick question. I have run into a couple cases where when replacing some buttons or installing something the previous whole is a bit too large for then new piece (see second picture as example). Because of if I can't screw it in because there is nothing backing it. Any suggestions on how to best handle this? Thanks,
