    Onan Generator manual 8.0K-gctid386212

Hey guys. Running generator this weekend and all of sudden it quit. Looked in hatch and oil everywhere. I checked all over it and all blew toward the bow and inline with the oil filter. Had some signs of rust on filter and will replace and check it out, but I am really in need of a manual for the Onan 8.0K diesel generator in my 1989 3870. If anyone has one please can you email a pdf. or otherwise. I saw one on the site several months ago and suggested the owner post a sticky to it but never saw a response. Can anyone help me out? Thanks

Did you check the obvious things like no dipstick, oil filler cap missing, can't remember but if raw water pump is gear driven, it could be rusted thru, oil press sender loose, leaking valve cover, etc. Worse items include blown head gasket and worse. Best is leaking oil filter, i.e. Loose.

I have the Onan 8kw in my 1989 3818. I have pdf files of the MCCK operators manual, parts manual, and service manuals. Very large files running from 22 meg to 32 meg each. If your regular email will handle that large send it to me and I will forward them one at a time.

Agree that first thing to check is if the filter is loose. Filter installed cold may become slightly loose when engine is at running temp.

Yes, I think the cause was probably the oil filter since the only place with wet oil is on the bottom of the filter. I think maybe the seal went bad and oil leaked around the seal and under pressure it spewed all out til the low oil shutdown killed the genny. I had to let it cool and had to leave before I could check this out. This weekend I will have to clean everything up. Thought I would start by replacing the oil filter, filling back up with oil and then starting with button on side and see if I can see the leak. If no leak then it was the filter, but if leaking I was trying to get manual prior to heading to boat. Yes email will hold it. please forward files to [email protected]. Is yours a diesel genny, Jesse?

BTW thanks all that have posted. Responses are much appreciated. Also, probablity the oil filter seal went bad, genny had not been run since last August when I fell on boat and broke two vertibrae. This was the first time I have started it since then and it was after genny had reached operating temp when it happened. Guess I will find out this weekend.

Hi Jesse. We have been having trouble with our Onan 8 kw Generator as well. Hubby called the local company that deals with them and they were suppose to send us the manual but they never did. Would you be so kind as to email the pdf files to me please? Thanks in advance. Email is [email protected]
