A buddy of mine just bought a new to him 39xx. I am going to Anacortes tomorrow to bring it home to Pender Island. Any suggestions on the best route either thru or around the San Juans. My charts are all down on my boat.

The ferry route through Thatcher pass until you get to Pole Pass by Deer Harbor then through it, East side of Jones, then East side of Stuart. A lot depends on the winds.

Thanks Mickey, I wanted to go thru the islands as the most direct route. I have been to Puget and back only once so wanted some local advice.

Two guys from a town in Az that most folks have never heard of discussing the best route through the San Juans, what is the world coming to?

Thanks Mickey, followed your route home. Do not know if I would have gone thru Pole Pass the first time running a friends new boat, but there is lots of water even though it is so tight it makes Chatham Channel look like a freeway.
Boat ran flawlessly, a few guages do not work. Still looking for all the switches for everything. Docking (3 times) was abreeze, it is more nimble than my 45 in tight quarters.
I am sure the Bobster will be posting lots of questions over the next while. Maybe here is the first one where does he get a key for the door. it is missing.

Try passing a tug in the fog in Chatham channel pulling a log boom and you will really understand narrow and shallow. Perhaps Whiterock Passage, everyone needs to do that route once. Pole pass is easy. Have seen Wa state ferries go thru there.
