    Exhaust Flappers on a 4387-gctid381297

i have removed the Exhaust Flappers on a 4387 they were the age of the boat and not in good shape very dry and brittel ... my question is do i really need them .... given the height of the exhaust risers and the distance to the stern from the risers ?

Flappers are good insurance, in a heavy following sea they are worth their weight in gold.

I have a 4388 (same hull) with the 310 Hinos. I have never had exhaust flappers, and have never had a problem, but i do have very large mufflers in the lazzarette, so maybe with mufflers exhaust flappers are not needed??

I would say that you could get by with out them but i wouldnt. If you caught a hard wave to the rear and all the conditions were right your engines could ingest water then you will be in a world of hurt. The flappers dont cost that much. Like boatworkfl said its insurance.
