      Doug, even the best of the best dimensions may be misinterpreted or misunderstood.

      Here's a suggestion:

      Make sure that the trailer suspension system is adjustable FWD and AFT so that you can dial this in once the hull is on the trailer.

      Fit the frame with the bunks and bunk vertical supports that you believe will support the hull.

      Build these with additional adjustment in mind, but do not weld them yet.

      Go to your destination, rent, borrow or steal a plazma cutter and welder.

      Place the hull over the trailer frame (ya got to do this anyway), level it and estimate the center of gravity best you can.

      Make the initial adjustement to the suspension system undercarriage.

      Raise the bunks up to fit the hull tightly...., tack weld them...., raise the hull again, and finish welding them.

      This will not require all that much time to do so.

      The time that you would have otherwise spent at home trying to estimate, pull strings, check dimensions, hope to heck that the dimensions are correct....., more layout, fitting and welding the bunk system, can now be spent while at the boat.

      I'd be willing to bet that it will take you less time while actually with the boat, than if you were to have done this at home prior to the trip.

      Add to this that any errors and/or rework will take even longer once there at the boat.

      I think that you'll be far ahead of the game.

      Now you'll have the best and most full support that you could hope for during your journey home.

        I really appreciate all or your replies! I went down to Georgia and paid the balance I owed on the boat, and removed it from the previous owners trailer. (severely damaged) The boat is in much better shape than I thought it would be, and will make a very nice boat when finished.Has anyone ever towed one of these behind a 1 ton diesel dually? I've had several people tell me there is no problem, but it looks huge in person.The weight is supposed to be 17,500, which is not all that much, but I have to go through the mountains, and that has me a little nervous.I will most likely try and obtain a 2 ton truck to use, but I hate to borrow anything if I can help it.Once again thanks for your responses.

          Towing is just as much a factor of stopping as it is the ability (per the manufacturer's rating) to get a load underway. IMO the 1 ton is way too small. I'd recommend a F-450/550 or similar vehicle as the minimum to consider...

              NFW with a 1-ton.

              Do not believe specs you will be well north of 20K plus the weight of trailer which will be at least 5K if you expect it to hold up. Just to be kind lets say you are in at 24K (which we have a post above that says a lot more than that). You need a class 4-5 truck to do this with a modicum of safety on public roads.

              I am all for DIY to some pretty extreme limits but for this one - call a pro and be done with it.

                Rick makes some good points i also put a rocker type joint on the bunks when i built mine.

                Ao the bunks would be self centering

                Even after all the measuring and calculating I still didnt get the center of gravity right and had to move the 3 axles forward after i built the trailer

                  That is too much for a one ton truck. I have a 32ft 3250 with out the fly bridge. It weighs about 11000lbs. Now add the trailer 3000 lbs. Now the liquid 2000lbs. Thats before any thing that goes in the boat. Add for the junk 1000 lbs. Thats 17000 lbs from an 11000 lb boat. Now my truck is a f350 superduty dually diesel it has a towing load of 19000. Im going to say 19000 is a real push more like 15000. So if your boat starts with 17500 its too much for a one ton. You need a f450 or a f550 or a kodiack6500 for the job.

                  Lets calculate yours 17500 +at least 4000 maybe double that for the trailer +the fuel and water at least 2000 +1000 for other stuff. You are going to be around 24000 lbs at least.

                    Yes, I totally agree that it will be too much for my truck. Thankfully I've got a friend that is into boats also, and he has a F-750

                      Doug - dmcb: yes I should probably spend more time here, but easy on the "old timer" stuff. Remember that middle age is always 10 years older than what you are, and while you can only be young once, you can be immature forever!

                        The 1985 38xx was 22,000 pounds with diesels. Dry of course. With the trailer weight its way beyond the ratings for any F550 that I know. And you'll be over height and over wide for any roads so you'll need permits and probably escorts.

                        Where you goin'? How about taking it along the coast as far as possible and using a commercial transport?

                          Old timers as in old BOC'ers. If you get up on the right side of the grass, you are not old, just lightly aged to prefection.

                                I finally got my boat home, and took everybodys advice and had a pro do the hauling. I forgot how big the boat really was until I saw it going down the interstate between two tractor trailers. One semi actually came over and bumped his mirror on my boat.:livid: Now on to the restoration!!
