Norcold refrigerator replacement-gctid371338

I have a 1986 3270 with the original Norcold refrigerator model DE-704. It has run its last and while it does run it no longer keeps cold. I suspect it is the compressor. I checked and Norcold no longer makes the model DE-704 or even one with the same dimensions. Has anyone replaced their 704 or repaired it? I would like to know my options.

John, norcold uses a proprietary compressor system that is pretty much unrepairable. Good replacements include Novakool and Vitrifrigo.

If the compressor runs on both 12 volt and 120 ac, then it more than likley can be repaired, it can be re-charged, if that does not work then it needs to be flushed, the capilary line ID is extremly small and does get clogged up. I would have a piercing valve installed and re-charged with 10 to 15% over charge, it worked for me, it is worth the try.

Thanks I will have a look at the compressor and if that does not work I did find a similar replacement in a Nova Kool

sorry to hi jack the thread but I just remembered that now....my fridge in my boat doesn't have a tag that tells me anything about the frigde and is missing the rubber for the door.... can u post a picture of urs so I can compare to mine to see if is the same model.....if is not abusing too much?

I tried to clean my refrigerator and cut the line on the freezer after trying to get it fixed by several technicians they said it would be cheaper just to buy another one. but looking at the prices or $700. and better the last two years I've been coolering it not very happy about that any way if you would be intrested you could have this unit the compressor works.
