When we purchased our 45 it had been upgraded to carry a jet ski on top. Using the original davit, a aluminum pole was attached and brought down through the main salon and anchored to the deck. While the finish was done well it destroyed the look of the salon. Also two very large support poles were customed made and attached from the stern wood rail to the overhead in the cockpit. Again, it was a professional job but it ruined the look of the cockpit and made using it as a fishing platform very difficult. We took it all out and restored the original look.

I agree. IMO the davit on the 45XX is not the best design but works well for lightweight RIBs, etc. I would not want to put a 1,000 lb dinghy on the aft bridge deck either- too much weight for the balsa coring, many of which have water intrusion due to age of the 45's, etc. There really is not much holding the factory davit in place. If you were going to upgrade I would scrap the factory davit and have one installed that goes all the way to the bottom of the hull and also upgrade the support for the aft bridge deck but really- I'd probably just get a different boat that was designed to carry that much weight up top.

"Upgrade the davit or just tow the thing?"

IMHO - way too much weight for the davit, balsa cored deck, weight aligment for the jet boat up top, and overall space. You would also struggle with the davit arm reach as the beam of the jet boat will challenge the ability of the lifting arcs required.

    Hope this helps

I'd like to be able to carry a 14' jetboat at 1000lbs. Upgrade the davit or just tow the thing? I hate to leave it in the water all the time as we get a lot of growth around here and I know it is hard on jets. Can the boat handle the weight up high and what needs to be done to increase the davit to handle 1000 lbs?
