I got all new Garmin on my 38 bay and my ?? is if anyone has put in the vision data cards and how much more detail was on the Navigation Charts just got back from a 4 day trip and I think I lost some detail from my old Nobltech I have A 4212, 4208 and 18HD radar with depth when I haul boat latter Garmin web site leaves me a little grey thanks in advanced its Spring in SE Alaska Roy

I installed the basic same system last year with the addition of auto pilot. The system seem to work great for me but my old stuff was 1985 vintage. The garmin tech reps were real helpful and seemed to know their stuff, you might want to give them a call and see if your doing something wrong. I do have a question... you got the 4212 and 4208, I'm guessing the 4208 is on the bridge ??? We bought a remote for $75 and a 15" computer monitor from Walmart ran a VGA cable to the flybridge and 110 power off the inverter and saved $$$$ your can change the lower screen with the remote and see it on the bridge. We learned this from the reps..........

I have put the vision charts on my boat for all of Canada. They are great . They have pictures of many ports and they allow you the use of the "guide me" program. All of this is stuff that I thought was wortless untill I used it for a season. I will purchase it for SE alaska befor my next trip and for southern Puget Sound

thanks so did you see more detail with the vision card installed over the preloaded G2 charts, the 4212 that I was using was great but not the fine detail of my old Nobotec but I believe that if you install the Vision card the MFD (4212) will defaut to it instead of the G2 charts with all the other options I put the 4212 in the fly bridge and the 4208 in the lower helm it fit in the cut out so you can see over and the detail is turned to MOST I do 99.9% of my driving from the bridge and is getting real close to install a custom pilot house incloser on the bridge and be done with canvas that a whole nother Tread in time I would like to ad a VGA moniter to the main stateroom for veiwing again thanks for your input Roy

+1 to this. I have a 4010 on my bridge so sort of have to buy the G2 chip and I'm glad I did. The detail is fantastic and I really like the autoroute feature that you can use when you have the chip.

The G2 Vision charts are what I use on our Garmin Chart plotter. I use the Aerial photos of ports, marinas, bridges and navigational landmarks, especially for new areas. I do not use the detailed coastal roads up to 5 miles inland. I use the points of interest such as restaurants, lodging, and entertainment. I do use the high-resolution satellite imagery. I do not use the 3-D Fish Eye and 3-D Mariner Eye view. I use the auto Guidance technology almost always. The one feature that sells this product. I do not like the Garmin Current Data. I find many important current stations missing, example Tacoma Narrows currents (tides are there but no current). When you have currents in excess of 8 or 9 knots, current data is important. Up North in the rapid areas, some current station data is provided and some is not. My laptop with Offshore Navigator has it all. Another reason for having multiple sources. In addition the Garmin tide and current data does not match published data for many areas and slack water predictions are off by as much as an hour from other published curent predictions. Hight and low tide station reports do appear accurate. I have talked to Garmin about these issues several times but nothing has changed that I have seen. What is amazing is my handheld/dingy Garmin chart plotter current data does match other published data.

I too have a similar setup. Running 2x4210's, one up and one down. Also GSD22, HD18 & Sirius Wx. Both units are networked, along with AIS from my VHF. Just got the Vision card for Puget Sound-Port Hardy at the Seattle Boat Show. Have only had the opportunity to use it once since, and I am really happy I got it so far. I like the Mariner's eye view, routing capability, & photos. The satellite imagery is sometimes good, sometimes too much. The nice thing is you can use as much or as little as you like.

+1 on wishing Garmin would figure out the Tides/Currents thing and get it right. I too use other apps to get better data.
