In preparation for my trip south

Bought a new guide book today.

This is probably pretty familiar to the West Coasters, but I have never boated south of Seattle.

    Very informative book!

Given you have been boating in Alaska for all these years and have your systems, trip planning, and self reliance well honed....I think the biggest thing for prep as you go south will be the change in expectations on the level of shine on the topsides that is expected. πŸ˜€

Yep, going to have to get that Alaska glacial silt off the boat

I suspect that after your trip you will not be very anxious to subject your new tan to any more Alaskan winters! Food for thought. 😱😱😱

You are correct Jim! This winter has already sealed my fate. November, even for cold areas of the lower 48 states is a transition month. This was the coldest November I have ever seen. Normally Seward Alaska is only about 10 degrees colder than Seattle in the winter. Normally November is in the 30's and 40's here. Still too cold, but bearable on the boat.

My honest thoughts are that I will probably be spending my winters south of the border. Summers I will transit back up the Baja and decide what I want to do along the coast. I cannot for tax reasons take a monthly slip in California as they will claim I live there, and charge me income tax. Besides the idea is to do some exploring for the next few years.

My boat has become my home for now. I will be looking at Condo's along the way and will probably buy one somewhere in the next couple years in order to stay in the real estate market and have a place to go once my cruising days are over. That way I do not find myself priced out of the real estate market when me or my body decides the cruising lifestyle is over.

Oh, never thought of that. Stupid me.

I'll have to think about that. I have not really been a "hat person" but might have to reconsider as much of my protective scalp fur seems to have dissappeared
