Stay Aboards and Active Cruisers

I wonder just how many BOC members are Stay Aboards and or Active Cruisers???

I'm a Stay Aboard. What does that mean??? Well... I have a house but choose to stay on my boat much of the time. I am running about 50/50 at present.

As soon as the weather breaks here in Alaska i'll be transitioning to "Active Cruiser" status. I suppose that is a stay aboard who is traveling.

So... Here on the BOC how many actually use their boat as a 2nd home, meaning staying aboard either seasonally or full time.

Are there any active cruisers amongst us?

I intend to be cruising full time Spring 2022. I need to prepare and sell my house, Sell motorcycle, truck, ATV. deer mounts etc.

Irony is mostly ready. I've upgraded the battery system for liveaboard, diesel heat, davit, galley, upholstery and more. Still do do over the winter are risers, some hoses and a stubborn fan coil installation in the pilothouse.

Unlike Kevin's anticipated upcoming trip, I can go in three directions from here and haven't decided which direction to take

It is a simple life! Yes you have boat maintenance, but you do not have all the work of taking care of a house and a yard. Nor do you have the internal pressure to acquire things since they won't fit in the boat!

We live aboard Dock Holiday for summer here in Nanaimo, BC and then fly home for the snowy winter in Toronto Ont. This winter we hope to sell up and move here in the spring. Would have done it 2 years ago but Covid-19 hit just as we had the house listed. We cancelled and hunkered down until we finally made it back this July.

I just stumbled on this thread but wanted to chime in! We spend April-October on the boat based in Wrangell, AK. The rest of the year at our home in Texas. Right now we are counting the days until we head north again!

Since starting this thread I have fully moved aboard and am transitioning to an active cruising lifestyle on May 1.

Except for the slip I have rented in La Paz i am a person without a home base

We have a legitimate Nevada residency and are frequent aboards. I would never claim to be a live aboard. In spite of my Marina having no more live aboards, I am lovingly courteous to all staff and generously make my appreciation known. We also travel in our Airstream and make sure all know of our adventures. I love being a frequent aboard. Weather, people, and boating is a pleasure each and every morning.
