  • MID BIRTH MATTRESS HELP AND IDEAS-gctid805217

Purchased a boat that did not have a mattress in the mid-birth bedroom area for the kidos/guest. The area measures out at 53x64 with an angle at the foot end. Was thinking of going with a memory foam mattress and cutting it down to size for correct fit. Does anyone have any input or ideas on this?? Water proofing, thickness, etc. Thank you as always for the great input!! Stay safe and keep floatin!!

I'm not sure how much help this will be but...

When we moved aboard our 3818 we cut down a memory foam mattress that was just going to sit in storage. I used a $20 electric knife from Target with the old mattress as a template. The electric knife will cut the foam like butter but leaves a rough edge that we just put a fitted sheet over. I'd say at least a 6" thick pad should be fine and you could mark the cut lines with a sharpie pen. A piece of memory foam and a knife is sure to cost less than a custom mattress...

We opted to purchase a Casper foam mattress. Removed from the OEM cover, measured frontge straight edge side at multiple points to capture curvature on hull side. Then plotted and marked w sharpie the cut wit a fine hacksaw blade. Not only the curve but there is a minor angle on that edge. Replaced cover and stitched to new shape. Slats beneath will allow for airflow. Premium mattress and very comfortable. Did the same in tge master berth. Only had the coffin shape and cover done by a local mattress maker.

I had the same Casper at home. It's not temper foam.

Perfect!! Thank you for the input. We were thinking about doing memory foam but wasn't sure what thickness to go with.

thank you for the link... We are going to look in to a custom mattress once we have everything working and performing at top notch.
