We take our dog if my son isn't home to take care of him. He is on a leash and kenneled if he is having issues or we go out. There are a lot of dogs on the dock. I like dogs always have, but why some people think their dogs are like people drives me nuts. They go in the water and come and shake all over the food, you etc. They hang around when we eat. They go under the table and fight with another dog.
The owners don't leash them, smile when they are in your space (as if you want them there), don't pick up after them.
I think if you have a dog on the dock, you need to control them and don't assume everyone likes being around YOUR dog.
The dog goes almost every trip... Especially the long 2-3 week trips to Canada... short trips for a day or fishing, no go... But then again the Admiral doesn't go either...
We always keep them on a lead... unless its a bare beach and no one else is around...
My Cooper who left us 2010...
My Orion who is still earning his boating legs (about 1 year old)...

Doug, I had no idea that you were a cat lover as well. Me too. But none have ever been on the boat while in the water.
I suppose if we snow-birded as you and Mona do, we'd so the same.
They're family!

Our beloved Sam was family. He was extremely well behaved and was loved by everyone who met him.
Sure, he'd shake off where we didn't actually enjoy it..... but that's a Dog for ya.
You have to control some of those actions.
They're still family if you make it such. Treat them well, and they'll behave as well, or in some cases, better than some humans behave!
When he passed away, it was indeed as though a family member had passed.

Cats make really good boaters. We have had them aboard for years. Sammy is our 4th boater and I think he enjoys the boat more than anything.
Every evening he takes a deck walk around the boat. He isn't keen on a ride on the Sea Nymph but he does go at times.
He fell in once when he was young, got himself out. He went running through the boat and ended up on our bed trying to dry himself off.
We didn't know what it was running through the boat and you can't imagine how much water a cat can hold in their fur.
Louie lives a ride in the Sea Nymph. The faster the better. He will stand on the bow while on plane. If he sees a wake or rough water he comes back until it passes. He also watches for shallow water when we troll. He used to bark when he saw bottom but he doesn't do that any more. He just watches. When one of us catches a fish, he barks to let the other know. When he sees Mona set the hook he barks.

I wouldn't laugh if my son tried to hump your leg. Or crapped on your door step.:hypnotysed:Or took the steak you were cooking while your back was turned. I like dogs. Owners need to mind their place. That is all I am saying.
