Matt (downloadcomplete), could be one of those "I'll start/you finish" games.
boat out ... could mean boat out of the water.
glass transom.... could mean that they're thinking that a 1989 OMC was a stringer drive, and that the opening needs to be glassed in for a later style drive conversion.
cut new hole .... could mean to cut new smaller hole to fit another style drive.
Guess we'll have to wait and see.

Pretty sure it would be an OMC Cobra in a 1989 2755 with a 5.8L Ford. I don't think that the KC was even out then.
Bayliner was using OMC Cobra I/O's at this time, and that's what throw me about this year model needing a glassed in transom and new cut-out.
Apparently some 1987's slid out the door with Volvos.... but I've not heard of a 1989 doing that.

A volvo drive with a ford motor ?
Not necessarily with Bayliner, but quite a few Volvos were paired with the 335 series (Windsor) Ford V-8's in the early days, and again in the later days.

these are a mix of AQ series and later gimbal system drives

If that is what he is getting at why do an SEI / Alpha? I would spend the extra to get a Bravo or a VP and go with B3 or Duo Prop drive.

If budget allows, I'd fully agree, Phil.

So in english, what exactly are you asking?
Not even sure that was English....as I learned it, lol

I'm guessing here that you have a cobra drive. If so you can buy a sei unit and a adapter. The advantage is a no question asked warranty.
Say you want to remove everything hanging off the transom you can go with a merc apha 2 new and the cutout will fit perfectly.
If his OMC Cobra outdrive is shot, as Chief Alen wrote, the SEI (STERNDRIVE ENGINEERING) OMC gimbal adapter ($350) and a new Merc Alpha One Gen 2 ($1495)would be a great way to go. If you can track down a cheap Gen 2, SEI will tell you there is a slight modification (I believe a little Dremel work) that is needed. If you buy it new from them, they will do it for you.
It would be the same as what I have, 1989 5.8L (351W 4 barrel) OMC Cobra
I was just explaining to Chief that Volvo Penta did use the Ford Windsor engines...., both back in the early AQ series days, and again in the later days AQ and SX/DP-S days.
Bayliner boats never saw any of these, just as they never saw any of the great V/P Power Trim drives.
