    Getting haul-out tomorrow, any recommendations while it(39)s out?-gctid356687

    Hi Folks,

    I skipped a survey entirely when I purchased the new boat, ask me tomorrow if I regret it. I'm actually very confident I have a solid platform, but want to get some maintenance work taken care of ahead of time, by my own mechanic to verify things before I start spending much time away from the dock with my girls on board. I've engaged the local yard to do a 2hr inspection after a haul out, which is basically like an survey at less of a cost. Here are the things I'm expecting to likely drop some money in the following:

    1) Paint -- was done 2+ years ago, and although it looks good at/above the water line I'm unsure of what the rest of it looks like. Haul-out is free with a paint job as well, so if there's any issue will probably say yes.

    2) Impellers -- why not, they're cheap and the PO has yet to get me his service records so I'm not 100% when they were really done

    3) Bellows -- If any sign of cracking/wear just do em

    4) Outdrive -- General service, the boat is in salt.

    5) Oil Change -- Engine

    Anything else I should brace myself for or take care of while she's out of the water?

    I would check anodes too

      also change the oil in the drives....check all electrical connections for corrosion....definitely replace all the anodes with fresh zinc's....

        Ah yes...Zinc's too. I'm prepping myself for about a $2500 bill if the paint has to be done too.

          Replace the bellows regardless of whether you see cracks. If you do not have service records, the bellows could be overdue for replacement. Don't take a chance on it. They are fairly inexpensive and neglecting them has the potential to sink your boat.

            Great news from the mechanic down at the yard. 'Great purchase, probably one of the cleanest 10 year old Bayliners I've seen. Nothing I can see to worry about.' They had been giving me a bit of a hard time down there for not having had a survey done up front.

              good news.

              if you do the bellows, you may want to do the gimble bearings while you're at it.

              and if it's due for an oil change, you may want to do the water/fuel seperator also.

                Although a survey isn't necessary (insurance wise) until the vessel reaches 10 years of age, it's always prudent to get one on a used vessel. As it's out of the water now, you may want to look into having one done.....
