My wife and I blast over to The Channel Club every summer for a week, we love that place. We never felt unwanted or found people to be "cliquey" - Im sure there are a few, but everyone we met has been really nice. They have boats of all sizes, and its a 5 minute walk to the beach. Plus they have a pool!

Does anyone have any suggestions? Thinking about putting the boat in one for the first time this year and don't know where to start.
I have small kids that would love a pool but that's optional.
Anybody in one and happy with it?

As 3wide said where in NJ? I am in the Raritan Bay and Morgan Marina. They are great. Have an excellent mechanic (Mercury Certified) and they do have slips available.
We are currently out at Lake Hopatcong at Lake Hopatcong Marine in Jefferson Twp. Great guys and a lot of restaurants on the lake to pull your boat in.
Next year (2013) we will be going to move the boat down the shore so I will also be interested in some of the responses here. - Tom
Lots of trade-offs to consider when picking a marina.
Distance from home to marina
Distance from Marina to where you want to boat
Fuel & pump out availability
Then of course price and marina amenities vs all above
I am in the same area as Spikeitaudi, Morgan creek right off the Raritan Bay. There are about 5 marina's
The pro's of mine are :
Closest to the bay
Water & elect.
one bridge and it does not need to be open unless your in a sailboat ( 3 of the 5 are behind a rr bridge that need to be open unless your in a canoe )
no crowds
5 min. from my house
Cons:
No fuel or pump out, but avail nearby
Fixed bulkhead & pilings
Dumpster & Porta John are the only amenities
No dockside "social activities" other then a nod or wave . there's just no reason to hang out so nobody does. Your either working on it, coming in or going out.
In summary the "pro's " that I listed are more important to me,then the cons. The price is about the same as the other's , maybe a little more but I'm in an oversized slip right by the gate that I can park my truck at.It's about 10 ft from my truck door to the swim plattform.
The other marina's on the creek like Lockwood's or where Spike is at are cleaner, maintained better and have a few things to do but I don't think any have a pool.
I know there's one in Redbank that has a pool , but it's at best 45 min. (think summer shore traffic ) from me and that's just too far.
So it's really up to you to decide what is important.
I live in Northern NJ so I was looking at Morgan Marina - 45 mins to an hour away.
I'm also about 30 Mins from Lake Hopatcong so I've thought about that as well - but I think I'm more of a salt water person.
My Parents house is in Tuckerton, so I'd be willing to go to South Jersey - I was looking at Silver Cloud Marina on Forked River.
I guess - to answer the question about where in Jersey, I'm not sure! I'm leaning toward being down south b/c that's the area I know the water the best.

If you go with Morgan tell them Alvin sent you.
s Keller, We going to meet up this year considering we are neighbors. You are correct there is no pool at any of the marina's by us. There is a nice picnic area with BBQ grills at Morgan. Also has shower facilities, fuel, free pump out station, bait and parts store. Very nice family owned marina and a very good Merc certified shop. Bad things about Morgan is it is the furthest up the creek out of all the Marina's, but one of the more protected marinas as well. And there is the Nj transit bridge. Not bad as you radio ahead. Longest I have waited is 10 minutes.

A guy I work with kept his boat at Silver Cloud for 18 years. He loved it. I went there a few years ago to look at a boat and the folks there were really nice. That will be one of my choices when I start getting close to moving down the shore. - Tom
