I wouldn't touch it. I thought a 3055 with a 454 wasn't enough when i saw one while shopping. And it wouldn't be. That's about what a 26 foot boat needs. A 28 could get away with it, but still shouldn't. I feel like a 30 should have 2 engines.
My 2850 (Old version of the 3055) has twin 220s, and it runs very nice. Most of the 2850 guys with a single 260 say they are dogs, and even 3055 owners with a single 454 say it runs nice, but not a speed demon. Years ago I had a Saratoga sunbridge (1979 25 ft) with a single 220, and it was a dog. With full fuel at seal level and 4 people onboard, that thing needs lots of trim to plane, and it was full throttle all the time. Having too little HP is maddening, and you will regret it forever.
