I do not own a 2556. If I did, at minimum I would use a 3/4 ton truck with 4WD. Launch ramps can be slippery.
My trailer would be at least a tandem axle with leaf spring suspension.

I tow with a diesel 2500. As Rick said above, aluminum tandem axle with leaf springs equipped with electric over hydraulic braking system.Dave

I towed my 2556 home 250 miles with my Dad's 1\2 ton. I'm sure I did not extend the life span of the truck. 3/4 at the minimum. Rick's 4.4 recommendation is good, as wellTally and Vicki

I towed my 2556 for 10 years with a Ford F-150 Supercrew 4x4. Worked for me, however, I only had a 20 mile round trip on a flat highway. Tandem axle trailer with surge disc brakes. 4 wheel drive came in handy a couple times at extreme low tides and one snowy morning.Jim

JC3, keep in mind that a 1/2 ton truck will no doubt pull that boat...... but the important thing is that you don't want the boat/trailer to wag the tow vehicle.
The heavier 3/4 ton suspension, and a long bed/long wheel base truck would be best.
