For those of you planning to change the oil in your diesel engine(s) Costco has the lowest price I’ve found! I know, who puts Kirkland oil in their diesel boat engines!!! However, look at the rating and I’ll bet almost anything this oil is made by a top oil producer. If my engines blow up I’ll report back but I think they’ll like these dead dinosaurs just fine!

Also Depot sells it for a good price.

That really is disappointing to me, too, Pete. I had some Delo from the last big sale at Costco, but my next oil change will likely be Kirkland. Lots of internet debate about it, but as often as we change our oil versus the number of hours Kirkland oil is as good as any.

From what I’ve read, it meets all of the certifications of the manufacturers and the refinery does a lot of private label work. IMO,oil selection is like choice of beer, Ford/Chevy/Mopar for those of us who remember the day, Bayliner vs any other brand, sports teams, or anything else of personal choice.

Wow, I just checked Amazon and for a 5-gallon of Delo 400 it's $198! The Rotella T4 is $82 and I can get it delivered to the store near me today. I think Earl recommends Amsoil My Costco membership ran out, we are just three so it doesn't make a lot of sense for us to buy there. So, likely I'll give the Rotella T4 a try. Is the capacity 3.5 gallons for each engine?
Also, I'm going to be installing my remote oil filters from Earl. Is there anything I need to be concerned about mounting them? Not too high (not worried about too low because they are just above the pan level already) - anything I should be concerned about?1989 Bayliner 3888 175 Hino’s - Mahal

costco partnered with chevron to market the delo400 under the kirkland brand, so its the same good oil that we have always used.
the delo400 and the rotellaT are the same basic formulations by different companies. there may be some minor differences, but it doesnt affect the quality.....
my dad was a rotellaT fan, but due to the availability, I became a fan of the delo400, so over the years we have used both in our industrial equipment without any issues.....

The Costco magazine had a large article about it when they took the old branded stuff off the shelf and replaced it with their house brand.
All engine oil is synthetic. They use a company (I believe in Nebraska) that blends oil for all the big names, including Amsoil and Walmart. It meets or exceeds the standards of SAE and those of the branded oils, including Mobil 1 and diesel oils. I have no doubt it is a quality product, safe to use in any marine engine.
Found an article:

I have always used Rotella T4 even in my gas powered Avanti for many, many years. When I got the Caver with diesels, I still used the same however to the tune of 5+g/engine plus genset. Last fall T4 was nowhere to be found however there was a good sale on for Rotella T5 which is their semi synthetic version of T4. Bought 5 pails at $82 CAD ($61 USD) each which did last falls oil changes and will have enough for next years changes.
