Paint inside of Jon boat?-gctid349745

My son has a 12 foot jon boat that we keep at our dock on the river all summer. He uses it for fishing, cruising the river, and for hauling our dog and gear to the beach. The thing is, that army green paint gets really hot and it's getting all scratched up too from the dog, coolers, beach chairs, etc.

We're wondering what we can coat/paint the inside of the boat with that will be more durable and less hot at the same time. Something like a light-colored truck bed paint comes to mind. Any ideas or personal experiences to share? We don't want to do anything that will add a ton of weight, the boat only weighs about 90 pounds by itself and we only use a 5hp outboard on it.

I think I'd avoid the bed liners, because they are thicker and pretty heavy. I'd just paint it.

Scuff sand, wipe down with thinners, wipe down with tack cloth, then aluminum oxide primer. After aluminum oxide primer, you can paint it with whatever is cheap and handy. Spray, brush or roll, they'll all adhere well to the primer. I'd choose a light colour exterior paint because you want to reduce heat, and a flat finish to reduce slip and glare. The ones that get returned because of colour mismatches are really cheap.

There are types of pipe primers or rubberized paint that holds up well. I use it for the bed of my utility trailer, it holds up well and is slip resistant. The stuff I use is call Mastic (usually black) but I'm sure any paint shop could lead you in the right direction.

My bud got some exterior grade plywood...cut pieces to fit on the bottom and carpetted with nice marine stuff...not expensive cuz you don't need much... the panels fit snug because of carpet...I just did same thing for my basstracker.

Looks sharp and your boy will love goin barefoot in boat..think u will only have 3 panels and weight is not much.
