USCG documentation - guess I know why they're in WVA

I am now on my third trip around the block with the CG. I have called them more than I used to call my mother. I have emailed and faxed them more sheets of "stuff" (which, by the way, they now want more of . ..) than I do when I do my taxes (long form) and when I bought my houses. . . . . together. What a joke . . . I truly believe that's why they must be domiciled in WVA - cause they had to come from somewhere else and WVA keeps them away from the water. No disrespect to any person of WVA descent or origin or even those who currently live there . . . . but these people had to have been sent there from another part of the country and can't seem to recognize similar facts on different forms for love or money. I thought this was the computer age . . . they have to have a 16TB hard drive full of my info by now. I now have to fill out the same forms that I filled out last May when I bought the boat with the same info that I used then because they are quoting I've passed the time constraints!! REALLY!! I passed it because it takes 3 - 4 months to get a response from you!! . . . and then you don't like it, so I have to send it to you again!! The latest is due to the marina that I bought the boat from never kept the documentation current since it was on the hard for almost 2 years (don't think I would've either) . . . so now the CG wants to know who the original owner was (and yes, I've already sent them that info) and wants THAT bill of sale too! . . . . I'm about to give up

They want to be assured that the boat has not lost it's citizenship.
    Not a joke.

All the ducks need to be in order when you file.
Is there a reason you wish to document the boat?

You are making me happy that I had a documentation specialist do mine. I did the running around, they did the research and filed the application with the USCG. My boat also had a break in documentation, the history was fascinating. The documentation center is on crazy overload and has been for years. Without getting political, the citizens services, like pleasure boat documentation, just plain needs more funding.

I have had more boats than I can remember but never felt to need to go through this. Is there a good reason or do you just like pain?

Unfortunately some finance companies and banks require that a boat be documented.

As suggested by PC Pete, go through a documentation/boat escrow specialist. It will save you a lot of hassle.

I have decided not to renew my documentation, govt. wants $60.00 a year, State of Alaska cost is $24.00 for 3 years, I never owed a penny or more on my 3870 Bayliner since 1999 when I bought it
                OOPS.
I made the mistake of looking up the fake commercial site.

How do you come up with $60 a year? It cost $26 a year.

I think you guys hit a look alike documentation service. On my iPad it popped up at the top and it really looks like it’s the USCG site. This one: https://www.google.com/aclk?sa=L&ai=...Q0QwIIw&adurl= however, the actual USCG documentation site is: https://www.pay.gov/public/search/gl...a-a55c1f970aee now, click on preview the form and, log and behold, $26 for the year.
These services that act like they are the official deal are the first ones that I dump. I have no problem paying for a service, but don’t try to tick me into thinking I’m dealing directly with the USCG.

I got a very official looking letter in the mail in either late October or November that didn’t quite make sense. It took me a few minutes of careful study of the letter to figure out that it was a documentation service, not the USCG. Had the presentation of the proposal been more honest and price been lower, I probably would have signed up. It really looked like the real official deal. What tipped me off was that the USCG doesn’t off multiple year renewals.
Im not saying you made an error, what I’m trying to point out is another case of the game players trying to look official when they are actually a business. To me it’s like the TV Private Investigator who flashes a badge and talks to make someone thing they are a cop and may introduce themselves as a “special investigator”. They are a “special investigator”, but not employed by a government agency.
If it sounds like a bit of a pet peeve.....
