Have you done a tuneup? I'd bet it needs one (my 89 2.3L needed one because the previous owner didn't think it needed on in 12 years).

Also, make sure timing is dead on. If it's off, expect backfire, misfire, etc

Re stalling, there is a shift interrupt switch that helps to make shifting smoother, it sounds like the switch is stalling the engine when shifting. This could be a cable adjustment issue.

    Welcome aboard !

I strongly suggest you buy a manual. There may be a free d/l here :

Ok here's another d/l... best write up on cobra drives how to adjust them etc. read and re-read it and print out a hardcopy you will need it when working on the new lower cable i think you need . See i think your lower cable went.

You trim... hmmm... maybe the solenoid went or the rams are frozen or rusted. Or air is trapped in the lines.

    Hi my name is Chris,

I recently traded a hovercraft for a 87 bayliner capri it has the 2.3 ford, I know nothing of this boat,

    1. When i push the toggle on the tilt/trim the solenoids Just click, whats that mean?

    2. The guy who had this before me said when he moves the throttle Forward the motor dies, what could be wrong?

    More questions to come,

    Thanks
