    Direct vs Indirect cooling system-gctid827765

I have recently purchased a 1997 2855 Ciera. It has a 454 with direct cooling. I have considered doing part of the Great Loop in this boat. I am wondering about the direct cooling and saltwater. I would prefer not to have to put an indirect cooling kit on the engine. However if that is the only way that I'm going to use this boat in saltwater, then I will. Anyone have experience or opinions or advice?

You are refering to open vs closed cooling. Has the boat been used in salt water before? If so I would not recommend adding a closed system at this point as little to gain in doing so. Lots of boat are used for years in salt water with open cooling and last 15-20 years. Main thing is to replace the exhaust system every 5-10 years depending on how salty the water is.
