Determining Exact model based on HIN?-gctid826488

Recently purchased a 1988 Bayliner Capri 2.3L and have been shopping online for a Bimini top. All of the sites I visited ask for the Model of the boat. Can one determine the exact model by somehow decoding the HIN? Also, when measuring the length of a boat do you go from the tip of the bow to the transom or ?

    Thanks in advance.

The Owners Manual Supplement has a lot of interesting info but here's a link to decipher the hull number: http://boatsafe.com/nauticalknowhow/hin.htm

If there is a dash near the end of the HiN number as in the last 2 digits of the number, USCG no longer uses the last two digits that represents the year.

Previously a manf. builds a hull in one year and finishes the boat the next year the builder used to call the model when the boat was finished, USCG counts the year that the hull was manufactured.

Example: XXXXX83-84, the 84 no longer applies.
