    38xx Cleats-gctid824956

I'm refinishing the teak cap around the cockpit of my '88 3818. I want to remove the rear-most cleats but I'm fairly sure there is some sort of backing plate or at least a nut and washer. Just turning the Phillips head screw does nothing but spin.

Is there some sort of access under the padding around the inside of the cockpit or so I have to remove the engine vents to get to it?

Thanks for any advice you can give!

      Drew,

To access the cleats you describe you must first remove the cockpit coaming. Look in between the pleats for screws, maybe beauty button covered. The coaming comes off in sections. Once off you will see access holes to the underside of the cleats which have backing plates to spread the load. The nuts are accessible with normal sockets/ratchets etc.
