Good day Fellow Boaters, My wife and I just Bought a 2000 2859 with a MPI 7.4L bravo 2. We upgraded from a 2002 2452 (242) model with a 5.0L I want to re power the 2859 with the 8.2L has anyone tried this? Is the 7.4L under power?

I have never heard anyone opine that the 2859 is underpowered with the 7.4, but many have lamented that their 2859 "only" had the base sbc 350 which was a bit underpowered.

The 8.2 is roughly the same size as the 7.4, but is heavier.
I would rather see you go 383 small block. Same power, lighter weight, better economy.

What about a LSX (LS 427 Supercharged) 750 HP 725 ft.-lbs. torque, small, light weight all aluminum and great on fuel, crate motor direct from GM $19,999. Like to see someone using a marine LS in front of a Mercruiser, would just require a coupler from Volvo Penta to attach to that LS crank. Maybe Merc. will offer it in the future?
