    Cigarette Lighter - 2001 Bayliner Capri-gctid823853

Does anyone know where the red and yellow wires go to from the back of the cigarette lighter housing? I tried to trace them and it looks like it goes to the back of the boat away from the fuse box. The housing has live power when I test it with a multi-meter, but when I plug in a USB charging port it doesn't get power to my phone. I am trying to diagnose what the issue might be? I was thinking of running 2 new wires directly to the fuse box since I have a few extra slots?

Your USB adapter probably isn't making the connection inside the cig lighter housing, some adapters are just to short to reach all the way down. Try a different adapter maybe. Been there done that

I have tried 2 different ones. The first one was a dud and didn't work in my car either. The second one works in my car but doesn't work on the boat. I will try a 3rd and keep you posted to see if that might be the issue, good call!

Agree with statement above, the end on my 12V air pump has to be pushed in a specific way to make contact. I can confirm on my 99 the outlets do have a fuse under the dash, not sure of the wire direction though. I can check

Does any device work in the socket. Portable fan etc. Did you meter the second for power

I use a pretty short USB adapter in mine and haven't had any problems. Have you checked to see if there is any corrosion in the cigarette lighter? As for the wires. Red is generally battery positive and comes through your fuse or breaker box, and yellow is usually ground and goes back the the grounding block attached to the battery negative terminal.

I installed a new USB plug direct to the wires. It is getting power but still not powering the phone for some reason.

The new smartphones (iphone, samsungs) have built-in controls that only allow charging when the amperage is within a certain tight range. Most of the cigarette lighters and USB plugs allow too much amperage variation. It took me 3 different ebay-purchased USB plugs to get one that worked.
