    Potential Owner of 1987 (?) Ciera 2550 (?)-gctid821584

    Hi all!

First time poster, because I've recently been given the opportunity to buy a 1987-ish Ciera 2550. It has 700-ish hours on it.

I'd like to ask the experts here (that's y'all) your recommendations on this boat. My wife and I got to ride on it a couple of days ago and it seems great for a 23-year old boat.

What sort of things should I look out for (gotchas)? Is $6,000 a fair price for this boat with the trailer?

Thank you for your time and thoughts!

6 grand is a darn good price if she's in good shape. The 2550 is the predecessor to the 1988 2655 and later 1991 2855 wide beam cruisers...in short, this boat or one similar to it has had a place in Bayliner's cruiser lineup for over 30 years.

Gotchas: We need to know what power it has. You need to do a full mechanical inspection - engine and drive, to ensure it's healthy. I would baseline the maintenance if you buy it, including full tuneup, timing, bellows, U joints, etc.

You also need to check the stringers and transom for structural integrity.

Another high dollar item is upholstery...if it's going and you want to do it right it's about $2,000. Same with canvas.

Feel free to take this advice and ask more questions.

I currently have a 03' 2452xe, before I had a 86' 2550de. I loved that boat! It's 9.5 beam is what I wish I had on the current ride. The 2550 was with the 250hp with the Volvo 260 I/o. I also liked the Volvo better than the bravo2 that's on the current. The 2550 was a bit doggy because of the added beam, but the comfort of the beam made up for it. As with any boat, there'll be challenges, but the 2550 is worth the hassle! Enjoy....
