Headed to Fossil Bay this weekend with a niece and nephew, does anyone know where we can find fossils there to look at? We always stay in Fossil Bay, but I have never looked for fossils before.
Funny you should ask... I was just fossil hunting with my little boy in Fossil Bay 2 weeks ago. We didn't find any... or maybe we did, little shell creatures, but very small... but the reality is the sandstone structures are so soft that they are always exposing more stuff. So anything is possible. It's fun just scrambling around at low tide looking at all the different things.

we have found fossils there, but only in the form of fossilized clams in the sedimentary rocks and clay... they arent too stabile and may crack, break, or crumble if you try to pry them out for a better look.... and collecting is not permitted.
there are so much more interesting things to see than old mud clams that are still in the mud years after they have perished.
some of the rock formations can be gargoyle like, and hiking around the island and seeing all its beauty is a nice way to spend some time and energy....
