What in the heck is this for???-gctid819979

This goofy cabinet/shelf thing, looks like it's some sort of spice rack but it's a bit of a challenge to get them in or out of there. And what's with the rails way up top?

Anybody els have this and how do you use it?

Wifey uses it for plates, both real and paper.

Looks like a magazine rack. Nice to keep your cruising guides and/or cooking handbooks...

Plates on the bottom, against the rails. Magazines and books in behind the plates. Tea towels and facecloths hanging over the upper rails.

I have one identical to that one beneath the lower helm where I keep my nav charts and owners manuals. It looks like it was factory.

I think it was intended to be used for charts and magazines but mine is located above the cooktop and about 3" from the ceiling. I'd have to distroy charts and magazines to get them in there

I'm thinking of replacing it with a small cabinet for spices and such

Just to give some perspective here's how I've been using it.

Mine was in the head. Took it out and wasn't sure what to do with it. I like the below the helm idea.

I removed the aluminum rods, and divided it with a shelf to create an upper and lower level, then added teak slats to the front of it..... now it IS a spice rack, and looks much better

I used mine for charts and paper work. plus the occasional magazine. It's gone now, along with everything else lol.
