The so-called captain thinks...Obviously he knows nothing about ships (but we already knew that.)that his sailing know-how and "intuition", abetted by divine intervention, had caused him to change course at the last moment and prevent a much greater loss of life.
"At that moment a divine hand definitely landed on my head," he said. "If I had continued on that route, we would have hit the rock with the bow. It would have been a massacre."
If he hit with the bow, only one or two watertight compartments would have been flooded. The ship would have stayed afloat (or lodged on the rocks) and remained upright. There would have been lots of scrapes and even some broken bones from the sudden stop. But 32 people would be alive today who aren't.
I only hope there is some "divine hand" that gives him what he deserves in the end. He's apparently too well connected in this life to get it.

There would have been a hell of a pile of people in the front of the Boat.....but maybe less deaths.....I really wonder why everyone wasn't on deck by the time it actually rolled which was hours after the hit?

I heard some victims were found at their muster station, with life jackets on. Also some were elderly or otherwise less mobile. No excuses, but with that many people on board some are bound to be caught in the wrong place at the wrong time.lolar3288 wrote:

Another thing, once the engines and/or electrical switch gear flooded, they had no propulsion and no steerage. So any claim by the so-called captain that he "guided" his ship anywhere is BS. I read that it was momentum that brought them away from the island, and a favorable wind that blew them back. The only grain of truth here is that conventional wisdom is, as long as it's afloat, the ship is the best lifeboat in a situation like that. Obviously not if it's about to capsize, though.
