Hello my 305 Mercruiser will start and rev up to 4000 rpm when you put it in gear , anything above 2500 rpm the motor die down, it will still be running but no power, back to 2500 rpm it will run fine, Any help would be great, Thanks

Don't rev it to 4000 in neutral,proves nothing.

How long you have this boat ?

What fuel delivery system ?

Hello , I got the boat new in 2008, it gas a 2 bbl carb on it, they ran some carb cleaner in , it runs a little better now, at 3000 rpm it starts to run bad then above that rpm it runs good again, just take longer to get on plane. Thanks

Last tune up .

Clean the fuel system tank to carb.

Got a fuel-water separator ? Dump the contents into a clear clean glass jar, let it sit.

See water on the bottom ?

Sunk the gunk and junk off the bottom of the tank with any water.

Fuel pump is giving you what psi ?

And, if a problem does occur, the system takes corrective action to reduce the risk of damage, and get the boater home safely."

So if you have this system, and it is sensing something wrong, it automatically reduces power to try and avoid engine damage.
