    1998 Ciera 2655 Aft Bilge Pump-gctid816938

Hi, just recently purchased the 98 Ciera 2655 and aft Bilge pump is not working/running. Forward pump and float working fine. The helm switch was replaced prior to receipt, so that may be the issue (but it works for fwd pump). Can't even see the aft pump and float to test. Anyone know where it is? Attached pic is my engine well. Would appreciate knowing where to look as getting in there isn't easy for my big framed 64 year old body. TIA for assist.

It's mounted directly beneath the engines oil pan.

Geez. I was afraid of that. Does it require engine removal for access?? Can't imagine being able to get hands n tools down there for testing and replacement. Hopefully it is only a fuse somewhere. Oughtta be a law that engineers have to dismantle everything they create! Thanks for the response.

The bilge pump should fire up with the toggle switch on the dash (check to red indicator light for power). If that isn't the answer, you'll have to stand on your head using a mirror to stroke the float. If that doesn't work I'd punt. I've seen the pump and have always hoped it would never fail. The young buck mechanics at the marine repair shop can probably get to it using an upside down harness of some sort. They're use to operating upside down. Good luck and keep us informed.

Update....after cleaning up in the engine compartment, found I could stand in the area next to the engine mounting stringers and lean over the engine belt/pulley. I found that the float is on a raised section with the pump just next to it and on the Bilge floor. Tested wires and had voltage getting there from float and dash switch. Pulled the Johnson style pump and it was hot from trying to run during testing. Found a replacement locally and replaced it. All working just fine now. Glad it wasn't back any further. While I could just get to the pump, and the float to hit the test switch, I wouldn't want to have to replace the float. BTW the pump is just under the harmonic balancer. Jeesh.
