I don't recall ever owning a boat that did not have one, or that I did not install one in. I'd not leave the dock without one!

I would suggest staying close to the same diameter as your OEM wheel, unless, you have power steering.

And don't forget the keyway. A little piece of metal that goes in a slot on the shaft. Easy for it to fall on the floor, out of sight, out of mind. No matter how much you snug up the nut, it WILL come loose. Don't ask how I know...:hammer

I recently rented a Grady White and I loved the chrome/stainless steering wheel. I want to get something like this for my 195.

Any thoughts on what to keep in mind when replacing this part? I don't know the steering shaft width, etc. Could I get away with a 15" wheel?

    Thanks
I took the small plastic wheel off my boat and put a stainless steel "destroyer" wheel on instead. Mine was 15" but I'm pretty sure they come in 12" too. Here is mine.

A boat wheel is a standard connection, a tapered shaft with the wheel held on by a big nut. Take off the cap, loosen the nut but don't remove it. Leave a couple threads engaged. THIS IS IMPORTANT. Now sit down and pull. You may need to wiggle it as you're pulling. It will break loose all at once, and come up against the nut. Remove the nut and take the wheel off.

If you remove the nut completely then pull the wheel off and break your nose, I accept no responsibility!!
