If you have a mercruiser, pull the prop off the drive and, if the splines are mounted in the prop, you probably have a spun prop. I recommend going with the newer style prop with a glass impregnated plastic sleeve. Take the diameter and pitch numbers from your current prop and go shopping. You should be able to get a new quicksilver kit for around $150 in aluminum. I ran them for twenty years on a 2950 Encounter with no problems. The old style rubber bushing ones lasted about a year or until I hit a twig.....really, just a twig.

You either have a spun prop or coupler. Doubtful it's the coupler unless you hit something and spun prop is easy fix.

I was out on the water on Sunday and I felt like my boat wasn't running that great. I would increase the throttle and the RPMs would go up but i wasn't really gaining a lot of speed and the boat wouldn't plane out.
Does that sound like it could be a spun prop, or could it be something more serious? I'm still new to boating so I would like a little more insight on the problem before I go to a mechanic.
