  • Installing Additional Cleats-gctid809396

I have a 1987 2450 Ciera and could really use two more cleats on the bow for tying up at the dock.. The boat only has one cleat on the bow at the rear of the bow pulpit and it is used for the anchor line.

There is a spot on each side of the bow pulpit that I could mount a cleat but I am not sure if this is a good spot. I am concerned about stress on the bow pulpit. Any input is greatly appreciated.

I wouldn't put anything else on the pulpit. Instead, I'd put one on each side of the foredeck near the rub rail but on top. That way you have good access to it from the dock, and the reinforced deck will better handle the strain. I'd also put a backing plate - like a ›" thick piece plastic or ¼" flat metal - behind it, though other members may know how solid the deck is whether it needs that, of just some SS fender washers.

Thanks CPT. Makes more sense. Going to tackle this project on Friday.

I would definitely use a backing plate of some kind.
