    Is this worth the trouble?-gctid803868

    Hello, first time poster here...

Found this boat driving by a yard sale. They wanted $4500 for both the trailer and boat. Problem with it is they were going to replace the floor but didn't finish. They removed the engine to do the flooring and haven't reinstalled it. They have everything for the floor and the engine. Is this worth $4500 and the trouble to do the work? Can you also help identify model and year?

Thanks for any help you can give with the limited info I have on this vessel.

      Nope.

How do you know the engine works?

And if you can't test the engine, you can't test the outdrive?

That both is worth 4500 in running condition.

As is it needs $1,000's in work if you took it to s real marine mechanic.

I sold my 1996 2252, with a hardtop, and a new Michigan motors 5.7 (ok, it had 22 hours on it) for $9000. I had the receipt showing I just paid over $5,000 for the motor.

That's a big project with. And if I was doing the work I would not waste my time installing a used unknown motor.

A project like that should be $1,500 at most.

They should give it away or fix it. In its broken condition it's worthless. You can only go on what they tell you . In the buy sell world what a seller says is meaningless unless its its documented. No way to know what they say is true. I'm pretty sure that boat will never sell in its condition.

It's a 2252, I am just not sure what year it is. I am thinking somewhere around a 1994ish due to the color of the stripes.

It's basically worthless. You are buying a shell...and you can likely find a intact 2252 for not a lot more than $4500 if you look, If you are just looking for a boat, you can absolutely find even older 1980s Cieras for that price that will need very little to make seaworthy.

              Hard pass.

Thanks for the info everyone. Going to take this great advice and look for something around the S6k range that needs little to no work. Retired and bored so I'm lookng to try new things. Not one to make impulsive purchases and it's nice I can get good advice from knowledgeable people.

After I educate myself I will share what I end up getting....thanks again

What area are you in? And what type of boating?

Prices vary wildly across the country.

I hate to see potential new boaters getting in over their heads with project boats and then getting completely disgusted with the hobby because they are always throwing money at their boat instead of boating.

Excellent idea! And please, before you buy it, post it on BOC. If it's a Bayliner, there are members who can assure you it will do what you want it to do. Beside, it is also likely one of us knows the boat.

It would also help us greatly if you filled in your profile so we immediately know where you are and what activities you plan to do with it. Just click on your name and select, "EDIT".

....and that's no trouble at all.
