Practicality of using a Bayliner in a lake-gctid802980

    Hey guys,

I am wondering if it's practical, or what the rules/laws are around a Bayliner being used in a city/public lake? It has public boat launch access, and it's a fairly large lake that we usually go to, but to me the boat seems really large to be practical on the lake. I also am not sure if there are rules/regulations for the size boats you can use in what lakes.

I'd hate to only use this boat in any of the Great Lakes, as I am a minimum 3 hours from any of them, but if I must then I must.

    I have a Bayliner Ciera 2550.

Thanks. I've actually been here a couple years, just hanging out and looking at stuff.

So, I looked up the DNR in my state, and found the regulations. Aside from a few no-wake areas in a couple of the lakes nearby, they mention no vessel size limit.

I used to fish from our 2355 on our lake here (Lake Stevens) and always felt too big for the lake. Mostly small ski boats, but looking back i wouldn't sweat it. Enjoy being the big fish in the small pond for once.

Once upon a time, I was interested in a 2655 (the 2550's successor) from a fellow BOCer. The sea trial took place on a small rural lake that predominantly had bass boats on it. We did a lap of the lake in like 10 minutes on plane, and we were the largest boat on the lake by a large margin.

The deal fell through for reasons not related to the owner or the boat, but it was an interesting exercise.

I wouldn't sweat it if you can't find a size or horsepower limit.

The launch may be your biggest hurdle. It may not be steep enough to launch and you'll have to pull in past the ramp into the soft bottom to be deep enough.

You might get more help if you said what lake it is and what state.

The state is Michigan and the lake is Clark Lake near Jackson.

As far as launching it, the launch goes deep enough to launch it, as we had it in the lake to test it out before when we noticed it had issues with it that we had to fix. I was just worried about it being a huge boat for the lake. In the summer, the lake is filled with pontoons and other small cruising boats and didn't want to feel like a powerhouse pushing through all of them.

                  That's a big lake...580 acre I see.

                  I had a 2855 & a 210 on my lake house...small 250 acre Spanaway lake,

No problem at all, just no where to go

I am the biggest boat (36ft range)by probably nearly 10 ft on the lake near my house the Lake is 30 miles long but it's not very wide. My wake goes from one side of the lake to the other.

If you are on a small Lake with a big boat you will need to be respectful with your wake or people will get angry. I usually do hull speed when others are around especially docks on the shore other wise I will do 25 mph

The nice thing is the lake is 30 miles long and most ski boats don't carry enough fuel to do a 60 mile + trip so on one end there aren't many of us.

This is one of the more wider spots. Just so you know you will get dirty looks from the purests

Here I'm anchored maybe 30 ft off shore so you can see its not wide. It is deep though.

One problem I have is the launch is long enough but the dock is too short to get in the boat sort when I launch someone needs to be in the boat and I can't tie up to the dock. To load every one gets on the dock and I back up to the finger and they step onto the swim platform. It's the only way.

Yes just down the street from my house.

                        Edit:

I was just looking at the stats for long lake it's 4,747.9 acres so it's not really a small Lake comparatively speaking. It's just long and narrow. Just the same people look at me like I don't belong there. There is only one launch that will work with my trailer on the entire lake. There is no fuel no pumpout the jet skis harass my wake continuously because it's the best around yet the boaters look at me like I'm ruining their calm peaceful water. Lol

I live in Hell Michigan not to far from Jackson. As far as I know each inland lake will have a designation of "all sports", an actual hp allowed rating or be a "non-powered" lake. That lake without a doubt is "all sports" and you can put Any size boat you want that can float out there with that designation. The lake that we live on is Hi-land lake and it's only 123 acres and is an "all sports" lake. We do have larger lakes on our chain that we can access as well. I will say however, it is very rare to she a cuddly cabin on any of the chain of lakes that we are located near....portage lake chain or half-moon chain of lakes. Mostly bowridrs for sure

One rule you might find on some small lakes is that traffic especially water skiing is unidirectional.

That is everyone has to go clockwise for example.

It is state law in Michigan that ALL watercraft traffic on inland lakes MUST go counterclockwise on the lakes. I assume that this holds true for only the "all sports" category lakes...
