    Mounting the Grill-gctid396772

Son-in-law bought us a really nice Magma gas grill for the boat--the big rectangular one. Now I have to figure out how to mount it. On the box (and the Magma website) there are dozens of photos showing different ways to mount th grill. Does anyone have experience with these--and a recommendation? My concern is that the grill is pretty heavy, so I'm skeptical of any single-point mounting system--but short of replacing the teak stern railing with stainless steel, I can't see how to mount the thing.

I have an extended swim step with the swim ladder under a hatch. I bought the pole and base for our mounting. I mounted the base under the swim step. When I install the pole to the mount the pole is between a couple of the rungs of the ladder.

You can lower the ladder before mounting the pole or you can leave the ladder in place. When you're all done you remove the pole, and cover the ladder with the hatch. Nothing to trip over, it's really solid and out of the way. With the unit on the swim step, if there is any grease that spills it's easy to just wash it off. You can also turn the unit depending on which way the wind is blowing so the unit burns evenly.

We find the single Rod holder works well. Our BBQ is a tad smaller though.A couple of points. It's nice when the Q fits in a storage box. They can get greasy.Be careful when relighting a cue that blew out. The gas can accumulate. We were scrubbing ours down in a marina when we noticed the oil slick around our boat. I clean mine at home now.Sometimes the gas cylinders leak when you remove them from the Cue. Gas is not a good thing to have below decks. We store our gas cylinders on the swim step cooler.

I put two catch holes in each gunnel top. They came with rubber flaps the same as the rod holders. My Magma will mount into these holes Port or Starboard so that it doesn't matter what side of the slip your moored. If you have a wide transom top the catch hole mount (not sure of proper name) can be installed at the rear as well. The are Magma mounts and they lock in so you can leave the Q there while moving. When not in use it's back to its storage box.

I like this system but there are so many options I'm sure others will chime in.

Just wanted to add; I can troll for fish while cooking and the BBQ is of no hinderince what so ever. I really hate it when line melts on your BBQop-

Currently I have my grill mounted into a rod holder on the gunwale next to the transom door on my boat. I'm not familiar with your boat so I don't know if that would work, but I *love* this location. It's out of the way completely, yet I can reach it easily from either sitting in the cockpit or from the dock or platform when rafted up. Best place for a grill IMO.

Oh, and the rod holder mount is SOLID. I've used the Magma pin-style mount and the Force 10 rail mount, which were ok but moved around. This one doesn't move at all and can be leveled easily.

              +1

We have a Kuuma (Force 10) grill and we use the rails. Works well, the only problem is the grill does not sit 100% flat. But the tilt is only a few degrees.
Yep, my 4588 Bayliner IS my happy place
