I am looking at buying a boat which has this gouge. Want to have it repaired to like-new, with color-matched gelcoat.Any ideas what a shop should typically charge? The gouge is 12" long and into the top layer of fiberglass, but does not need a structural repair.
why not just leave it for a while? I buy my cars "per-scratched" and did the same with the boat. You don't have to decide which scratch you will make first as the PO already took care of it......
You could even fix it yourself with a bit of elbow grease. Color matched gelcoat repair kits are available.
I wouldn't be surprised if it was $1000 or more. It will take time to fill that smooth without widening the damage area, and skill to color match and blend the color.
I'd just fix it myself if I were you. Your color of Patch Paste should do the job just fine, and as others have said it's very expensive and you may very well get your own scratch. Mine don't look perfect, but as long as it isn't structural it doesn't really bother me most of the time. A 2 oz jar of patch paste is somewere around $20-30 and it'll take you probably 2 hours. It's pretty easy.
