    I Never Heard a Thing!!!-gctid395158

On Sunday the Admiral and I are sitting on the boat enjoying the sun the mountains and life in general. She looks at me and says that humming is driving me crazy! I say what humming I don't hear a thing. She says the humming coming from the back of the boat.

So the radio is on, the VHF is on the GPS is on and the fish finder is on. So I turn off the master battery switch and the humming goes away. I turn switch back on as well as all previous systems. The Admiral has determined that the humming is coming from low in the transom. One by one I turn systems off. When I hit the fish finder it goes away. So I toggle the fish finder and yes that's what she hears. It's the transducer mounted on the bottom of the transom under water.

So have any of you ever been able to hear a transducer. If she really has that kind of hearing I am in deep trouble. :kidding It is a SH connected to a FF520

Is the admiral covered in fur?

I think transducers sometimes do make human-audible noise before they go bad. Human hearing ends about 20khz in a young person, your typical transducer is 50-200khz... so you would not hear most in operation unless they are particularly "noisy" in their output.

my wife hear's crap I can never hear......I'm always amazed at what she can hear.....but if she's hearing the low freq. of the transducer on low..then it's possible.....some xdcrs are dual freq.....

Is it possible that your bilge pump is somehow connected to your fish finder and is activated when it's on? I've a hard time believing that someone could hear a transducer, especially when other accessories are on. You don't happen to have the old dial type fish finder do you (the one that spins around in a circle, marking depths, and fish, with a wider flash)? I used to hear mine on occassion, but I thought that those units werer all retired.

On my aluminum boat, I can hear the transducer when the boat is on the trailer. Yet I often can't hear my wife. Hmmmm

I will forward this post to Doreen so she can speak louder. You can thank me later.

Maybe it's not the transducer, but the trailer. Have you tried putting your wife on the trailer?

If not...., the next question would be; is she from the planet Krypton?

That is some amazing hearing ability for sure.

I think that's referred to as "selective" hearing. I've been accused of having the same problem, Mike.

                          No taken

                          She laughed too

Normally the engine is running when fish finder is on. In this case I have been having issues with the GPS locking up when I enable port two "Fish Finder" So while at the boat I turned it on to see if I could repeat the issue. To verify she was hearing the transducer I toggled other dash switches because she could hear me toggle the switch. When I toggled other switches she did not hear anything.

Talk about a fly on the wall.

I wonder if I can make money.

I have an AirMar shoot-thru xducer in my 288, and I can hear it "click-click-click......" if the engine's off and the hatch is open, but no humming. Contact Guinnes World Records and have them test the Admiral!
