tell him Tony referred you, (NO, I do NOT get a commission!) I have the Mermaid 12,000 unit in my 2850 Contessa with the X controller. Just a WONDERFUL unit with reverse cycle. Brian is GREAT to deal with!

Bad news guys, Brian is no longer with the co. ! they refered me to a new guy who didnt really know his *** from China. so i did some research online and found an entire kit for a 6500 btu new same brand with pump from Starmarine, under $ 1600 with shipping. Anyone familiar with these guys??

The price sounds a bit high. Does it have reverse cycle? I think you woudl want a bigger unit. Check out DEFENDER.COM They also carry Mermaid units. Sad to hear Brian is no longer there. he was a wealth of info!

If you can get the whole thing including install kit for under $1600 I would buy it. I had the exact unit for 10 years. It had electric heat. Top discharge. Installed myself.

no guys that does not include reverse heat or the install. that is just for the unit, kit, and pump, i think i still have to buy the thermostat too. that is the cheapest i have found for a new unit. If this sounds high to you guys , HELP. I cant find it any cheaper , my local guy at skipper Buds here in Chicago area said beat he could do for same unit was 2300, not including install.

I have the 12,500 BTU unit with reverse cycle, paid $1299.00 INCLUDING the FX-1 controller. Darned you Brian!

Yes, get the reverse cycle for the small amount of extra $$. WELL WORTH it!

                            How did the install go?

I am strongly considering adding A/C to my 1999 2655, hovering my credit card over the ordering page.

Where did you put the components? I'd probably be looking at a 7000BTU unit, and I'm not seeing any easy place it will fit other than the space behind the refrigerator. Which would then likely have it's main output right across the top step, which is probably suitable for cooling both sleeping areas fairly. I suspect it wouldn't be too hard to get everything routed from there.

                            Opinions?

Re ordering from Mermaid, I live in Toronto Canada and had ordered a 6500 btu with electric heat and installation kit delivered to a depot in Niagara Falls New York for pickup, they're in Florida.

I've been dissapointed with the experience and have gone back and forth with the support desk, I get the feeling they think I'm a pain to deal with. The unit freezes up. In the end was told the marine pump wasn't strong enough to reach the unit at the front of the boat from the engine room. I found another Marche pump locally which sends enough water, but the unit still freezes up. I now have to contact again and arrange to send the unit back for remedy once the boat comes out of the water in the fall.

I guess what bothers me most is that I sent the schematics from Bayliner with runs displayed and they didn't take the time to ensure what they sold me would work. Besides supplying a pump that wouldn't pump enough for the required run, the kit had a breaker switch marked as shipped which wasn't, I suggested they didn't need to as I had one; the through hull wouldn't fit into the ball valve, I had to purchase another (the unit I purchased had a grounding screw, what they sent didn't), there was something else missing that I had to purchase locally but can't remember now..

Anyway, not a good experience, but lesson learned, do more homework than I did. Tread carefully with this company.
