Looking at getting a TV to use top side. (22") What will be better for outdoor use? LCD or LED?

as usual it depends but as a general rule LCD screen are very sensitive to high temperatures and freeze at low. LED's don't have this problem.
Another thing is visibility when its bright sunshine. LCD screens in TV's (and PC's) are illuminated from the back and there's only so much you can do. LED's "shine" on their own but there it depends on what type of LED and how good they are.
Personally I'd go with LED but that doesn't say that an LCD won't work.

The only true LED TVs are at the ballpark or on the side of the blimp. What is referred to as LED TVs at the consumer level are in fact LCD TVs illuminated by LEDs from behind instead of fluorescent lights.
For a boat, get whatever type is less expensive. I don't believe the type of back light will make any difference in how long the TV will last outdoors. But if you are concerned with power consumption, LED TVs generally consume less power.

What Dave said. They are all LCD. OLED is coming, but still very expensive in larger sizes (larger meaning bigger than a phone screen).

yep, I wasn't accurate enough.... The OLEDs are the way to go but as Carlos said they are on the pricey side for now in the larger sizes. I have a 19" OLED one for the backyard and it does pretty good.

I should have been more clear. I will not leave it up 24/7. It is to use while on the hook for the kiddo's. When not in use I will store it in the cabin. I was thinking about just moving the cabin one to use topside and get a larger one for the cabin. Found a sweet deal on a 24" JVC with built in DVD player...sub $200.

for this use I'd say everything will work.
If you can find a unit with external power supply it might be an advantage. There are DC supplies available you can run from 12V directly thus avoiding to convert up to 120V and then down again which eats into the efficiency = current load
The OLED ones are still far to expensive. Mine was more than the 55" in the living room, EUR970 = ~$1200 before tax
