All right Bio, what are you sending our way....-gctid388385

    Ryan,

Is this impacting you? How bad is it that they have blown past 30k cubic feet per second? Hope all is well up north of us (and especially hope nothing bad comes our way in this quantity).

Whether pleasure boating or commercial barge, Old Man River is dictating the terms. The Army Corps of Engineers expects the upper three locks on the Mississippi River to remain closed to boaters until mid-June.

Yea the rivers a flowing. The locks I go through are still open, but its pretty scarey because of how fast the water is moving. I took my dinghy up the back waters a few times this weekend, I could barely keep going up river at hull speed with 2 people. With myself on plane I was ok though. The way down I am pretty sure I hit 7-8mph, definatly was going faster down with no engine power then up at full power, doesnt happen too often like that.

Hastings lock is the 1st one south of the cities, I am pretty sure its still open along with redwing, my boat is just north of that lock. We dont really venture to the northern locks up in the cities, stinks like garbage and lots of barges so I haven't ventured up that way for at least 5 years or so.

I am not sure if we crested yet but the water is REALLY high right now, especially for this time of year.

At my marina they have a 80'+ ship, he said coming out of the lock , both engines pegged he can only get 5-6 knots, the water is flowing at a rediculous rate, he is even dipping out of the main channel to try and avoid the high current. Aparently around here its 3x the normal level or more.

My sister lives in Hibbing so I know you guys had a pretty moderate winter. Has Spring been that rainy?

Incredibly rainy, mainly May (and about 1 week of it). The overall winter was pretty snowless, and we didn't get the bulk of our snow until the end of the season. The Iron Range got more snow than we did 2 hours south. but overall, it wasn't much of a winter and we saw very few sub zero temps this season. Very odd.

Hibbing--home of Greyhound, Bob Dylan's childhood home, and a surprisingly good Chinese buffet. I Love it!

I felt the same way on a visit. Her husband is from Bear River so they moved up there to be close. Not for me. Beautiful country but not for me.

Well, I guess we'll see if our waters rise over the next few days. We've been very lucky with pretty solid water levels this year after having flooding issues the last three. Hope our luck holds out.

I read today that 3 locks are closed up north. Hope it doesn't cause any problems up that way or down here.

I was born in Hibbing, my uncle kicked Robert Zimmerman (Bobby D) out of there high school rock group ("he wasn't good enough") and Art Erickson the lumber yard king, my grand dad and I did lots of fishing in the day. Sorry for the high jack, I just don't hear much from the range anymore.

good old hibbing, the mines are hiring up there again, some growth now. My uncle actually makes a pretty decent living as a machinist for the mines.

The area is a little too small for me. I still love lake vermillion, nothing quiet like it. I told the admiral I am getting another diesel dually eventually, then a trailer for the boat. She said why the heck do we need to trailer the boat, I said duh to take it to lake vermillion of course!!!
