Funny you should post this. Just yesterday in fact we got towed in because our belt broke! Good idea to keep a spare I'd say. Assuming that any lame-o (such as me) could replace it without a lot of tools Mines the 5.7 350 mag.

I don't know if there is a replacement, but sprung for the $150 odd for a spare, figuring that it would be good insurance while boating in a remote area.
My guess is that the belt is expensive simply due to the limited number of them used for the marine configuration of the GM350.

I bought a new belt when I bought the boat as I did not know how old it was. Put the new one on and used old as backup. I look at things as when do you want them to break. If it breaks on the water where I boat it ruins your day and may put you at risk.
There is no stress changing it at the dock. May not be the case in 20 knt winds and 4' seas.

Just went through this a few weeks ago, replaced the merc with a street version.
Original Post:
For those looking for a street alternative for the overpriced Mercruiser belts, I picked up a Dayco belt #5061065 for $30. It replaces merc # 57-861049 for later model 5.0 / 5.7 raw water cooled blocks with B3s. Will keep the old one as a spare.

here's what I did for mine....draw a map of the belt layout.....take the old one off and go to the local auto parts store....hand it too him and say I want one of these....he'll take a stick and measure it...go back behind the counter someplace and pull one for 30 bucks.....
sure beats the heck out of 150 bucks for the exact same belt that only sez "marine grade"...and it will do the exact same job...

This is the belt from Car Quest that the dealer in my area uses. Fits ~2000 Mercruiser 305, B2, raw water with power steering. The red belt is a cheaper backup, the blue belt is higher quality. Under half the price of the OEM belts.

As said above, take a pic or draw a diagram of the old B-4 taking it off.
"marine grade" means the price is quadrupled.
"medical grade" means they charge your insurance company 10 times what it cost.

Just got a quote from my dealer. The belt for my engine, which is the 350 mag. With B3 is 80 bucks. Not cheap, but not 150 either at least.
